What Is An Obstetrician/Gynecologist?
Obstetrics is the care of a woman through pregnancy, labor, delivery and immediately following childbirth. Gynecology encompasses all other areas of healthcare involving the reproductive organs of the female.
We prefer to limit our practice to Obstetrics and Gynecology. For problems outside our specialty, we work closely with your family physician, internist, surgeon, etc. If your problems fall into one of these fields and you do not have a physician, we will assist you in finding an appropriate specialist or family doctor.
The doctors of this practice are Board Certified. This is the highest academic and professional achievement one can obtain in this specialty. After graduation from four years of college and obtaining a bachelor's degree, the Obstetrician/Gynecologist, like all doctors, attends four years of Medical School. Upon graduation, he receives a Doctor of Medicine degree. The doctor then serves one year of internship in a medical school or teaching center hospital. In order to become a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist, the doctor continues his training for an additional three years and then is tested for certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. By this time, the Obstetrician/Gynecologist has twelve years of graduate and post-graduate study and training.
Why We Practice As Partners
We practice as partners for your benefit and our benefit also. Practicing this way, we can:
- rotate the responsibilities of nights and weekends between us and therefore, provide you with 24-hour a day medical care;
- discuss unusual or complicated cases among ourselves, providing you with the advantage of the consensus of opinions;
- assure you that if your regular doctor is away, the others have access to all of your medical records, and are just as interested in your well-being as your regular doctor;
- devote adequate time to medical meetings and continual study;
- have sufficient time off work to be with our families as you are with yours.
